William Jackson Poland, Jr., 78, passed away May 09, 2023 at Ashbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg, MS. Bill as he was known, was born on July 30, 1944 in Forrest City, AR, the son of William Jackson, Sr. and Eileen Clara (Kelch) Poland. Bill was a mechanic by trade, and owned and operated Bill's Marine and Auto in Valdez, AK for fifteen or so years. In the off season, he did maintenance and snow removal at the Valdez Man Camp. Bill was an easy-going man with a big heart, always willing and eager to help anyone in any situation. In his spare time, he loved to fish. Bill owned a few boats, including "Trinity" and "Go For It". It wasn't anything for him to take his friends, and even strangers at times, out fishing. He was forced to move South around 2014 due to an injury. The cold weather of home wasn't suitable, but the warmth of South Mississippi worked well. He had a friend down in Perkinston, so Bill made it home for the past several years. He was the friendly, relaxed type who enjoyed Lincoln cars. Bill will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded by his parents, Bill and Eileen Poland, Sr. Left to cherish his memories are his brother, Larry Poland of North Pole, AK, along with many extended family and friends far and wide. Bill's final wishes were to be cremated and returned to Alaska, which his brother is honoring. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Poland family in their time of need and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers through the days ahead.
