Wendell Doyle Shoemaker passed away Saturday, October 14, 2023, in his native Mississippi. Born on February 2, 1956, Wendell was a man of great humor and spirit, who left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. Wendell was a proud graduate of Harrison Central High School. He spent many years building trailers at Redman’s Manufactured Homes, before moving on to work at Delta Tires. His dedication and hard work were evident in his long and successful career, which he enjoyed until his retirement. From his childhood in Woolmarket, Wendell developed a love for baseball, both as a spectator and a player. His easy-going nature and infectious humor made him a joy to be around. He was a man who loved the outdoors, whether he was relaxing around a campfire or spending time with his family. Despite his initial hesitance to adapt to new situations, Wendell was always able to find the humor in life, often lightening the mood with a well-timed joke or his signature mischievous smirk. His life was a testament to the power of humor, resilience, and love. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and his spirit will live on in the stories shared and the laughter remembered. Wendell is survived by his two children, Coreen Shoemaker and Derrick Shoemaker; his siblings, Kenneth Shoemaker, James "Pete" Shoemaker, Dorothy Fayard, Shirley Barnes, Carol Dew, Patricia Parker, and Jenny Lockridge; two grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. He shared a special bond with his great-nephew and best bud, Daniel Jr., with whom he enjoyed watching TV and just hanging out. Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, William W. and Ida C. Shoemaker, and three siblings, William Donald Shoemaker, Irma Jean Thompson, and Anna Lee Shoemaker.
