Violet Marie Stanford of the Ford's Creek community, went home to be with her late husband, parents and siblings early Friday morning at Pearl River County Nursing Home, just a week after celebrating her 90th birthday. She was born January 7, 1931 in the Spring Hill community, the youngest of six children to Albert Nemiah and Florence Sarah (Howard) Tyner. She grew up in Ford's Creek and was, by all accounts, spoiled in many ways. She was after all the youngest and all her siblings were grown and gone when she came along. Violet loved going to work with her dad in the tung nut fields as a young girl, and picked up some pretty good cooking skills from her mother to boot. After high school, she went on to Pearl River to study cosmetology. She owned and operated Violet's Beauty Shop in Poplarville for some 57 years. Violet married Hewett R. Stanford March 3, 1950 and they made their home in Picayune for a while before returning to Ford's Creek. With a few exceptions, she and most of her family have spent their entire lives there. A member of Murray Hill Church of God, Violet was a Christian by faith, which was evident in her life through the years. She loved her family and was a staunch defender of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, no matter what. She is remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, as well as a talented beautician. She was an "excellent" cook, making the best dressing and banana pudding there was. Violet loved bread, especially fresh bread, often snacking on a piece of "light bread" around home. She loved the cheddar-garlic biscuits at Red Lobster and no matter how much she had eaten, she would always ask them to "bring us another basket of biscuits!". She will be so fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved her, along with countless customers through the years. She was preceded by her parents, Albert & Florence Tyner; all of her siblings: sisters Roxie Graham, Rexie Burge and Helen Smith, with two infant siblings; and her loving husband of 56 years, Hewett Stanford. Left to cherish her memories are: her two daughters, Sheila (Tommy) Burkett of Carriere and Marcelle (Philip) Tims of Poplarville. She leaves a legacy of three grandchildren: Jennifer (Jason) Polk and Heather (Ian) Estorffe, both of Gulfport, with Kaitlyn (Caleb) Magee of Poplarville, along with six great-grands, extended family and friends, with more customers over the years than could ever be counted. A graveside service is set for Monday, January 18, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the Murray Hill Church of God Cemetery where she attended and served. Violet's nephew, Rev. Bevon Smith will officiate. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Stanford family in their time of need, asking everyone to keep them lifted up in prayer over the coming days.
