Velva Turner Obituary

Velva Lee Turner, known affectionately by friends and family as Lee, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2024, in Gulfport, Mississippi, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 11, 1952, in Paducah, Kentucky, Lee's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and an unwavering spirit that touched the hearts of all who knew him. Lee is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years Debbie Turner, with whom he shared a beautiful and enduring partnership. Together, they raised a family of strength and character, including sons Eric and Gary Lewis, and daughter Shona Freeman. Lee's legacy also lives on through his six grandsons and one granddaughter, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. A man of family values, Lee was the cherished brother to seven sisters, Barbara Sue Evelyn, Donna, Saundra, and the late Ruth, Sharon, and Bonnie. He also leaves behind memories to be fondly recalled by his only brother, Ralph, who predeceased him, as did his sons, Douglas and Travis, and his grandson, Robby. Lee's passion for the great outdoors was unmistakable. An avid hunter, he found solace and excitement in the serene landscapes and the thrill of the hunt. His love for nature was only paralleled by his love for his family and friends. Those who had the pleasure of knowing Lee would describe him as loving, friendly, and undeniably funny. His wit and humor were the light in any room, and his laughter was infectious. Lee's presence was a comfort, his guidance a beacon, and his companionship a gift. Throughout his life, Lee cultivated friendships that stood the test of time. His amiable nature and genuine interest in others earned him the respect and affection of many. He was a friend who listened without judgment, spoke with kindness, and acted with integrity. Lee's career and personal endeavors were marked by a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence. His professional life was as varied as it was successful, but no matter where he found himself, he was always regarded as a man of principle and dedication. As we bid farewell to Lee, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest. We take comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to guide us, his stories will continue to inspire us, and his love will forever envelop us. Lee's memory will be etched in our hearts, a cherished reminder of a life well-lived and a man deeply loved. The Turner family extends heartfelt gratitude to the community for their support during this time. In honoring Lee's memory, we remember not the sorrow of his passing but the happiness he brought into our lives. A private service will be held to commemorate Lee's remarkable journey through life. As we gather to reflect on the moments we shared, we will celebrate the enduring impact he made on each of us. Velva Lee Turner's departure from this world is not an end but a transition. Though he may be gone from our sight, his spirit remains a beacon of light in the lives of those he touched. Rest in peace, dear Lee; your memory will forever be a source of comfort and joy to us all.
