Sara Simmons Obituary

Sara Leona Simmons, 69, passed away May 17, 2022 at her home in the Pistol Ridge community. She was born on February 02, 1953, the fifth of nine children to William Ezra and Obelia (Pickett) Reid. Sara grew up in the Pistol Ridge community, and was "a mess" by all accounts. She was always, and we do mean always, into something. For instance, Sara and her cousin once decided to eat a few tung nuts, which ended with some minor medical attention, needless to say. Gardening and farming, with some cows and hogs, a few chickens, and even a couple of ducks, was just the way of life she came up in. Sara attended Helena grade school, and later Forrest County AHS, graduating with the Class of 1971. She went to work at Movie Star in Lumberton and stayed there for several years. More recently, she worked as a CNA at Bedford in Petal. Sara has lived in Baxterville, Fruitland Park, and Carnes over the years, making friends everywhere she went. She is remembered as the true life of the party. Jovial and kind-hearted, she was the type whose door was always open to anyone in need, often to a fault but Sara didn't mind. She enjoyed gardening and picking vegetables, and the annual visits to Eubanks for canning tomatoes over the past few years. In her spare time, she loved her Swamp People, and if she got close enough, a scratch-off lottery ticket was always in order. Sara loved family gatherings and long walk in the woods in the winter months. Her quick wit and laugh will be sadly missed by all whose life she touched. She was preceded by her parents, W.E. and Obelia Reid, and four brothers: Ed, Bill, Roy, and Dale Reid. Left to cherish her memories are: her two children, Jeremy Simmons of Pistol Ridge and Tonya Simmons of Fruitland Park; her siblings, sisters Myrtis (James) Smith, Inell Reid, and Aneta Stanford, all of Pistol Ridge, and her brother Joe (Saranda) Reid of Seneca. Sara leaves a legacy of one granddaughter, Madalyn (Austin) Bass of Purvis, along with numerous extended family, colleagues, and friends. Services are set for Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Trinity Funeral Services' Lumberton branch. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM, followed by a chapel service at 11:00 AM, with Bro. Leon Herrin officiating. Afterward, Sara will be laid to rest in the Entrekin Cemetery in the Carnes community.
