SSGT Everette Huhn Obituary

SSGT Everette Earl Huhn (MSARNG Retired), 75 of Sumrall, went home to glory Wednesday afternoon at Forrest General Hospital. He was born August 25, 1946 in Tylertown, the second of five children to Roy and Juanita (Mulford) Huhn. Everette grew up outside Tylertown in rural Walthall county and enjoyed the country life. He liked the outdoors, playing baseball, and fishing with his sister, brothers, and friends. He grew up in church and attended Tylertown schools, joining the Army National Guard as soon as he could and was off to Ft. Polk for training. Everette met Nelda Rushing one evening at The Avenue Theater in Tylertown where his father worked. He asked if he could sit beside her and the rest, as they say, is history. They were married in 1968 on his 22nd birthday and made their home in Tylertown for several years. Everette worked a couple of jobs here and there while serving in the Amry National Guard, eventually securing a State position with Pat Harrison Waterway District. He was the ranger at Flint Creek Water Park for a few years before becoming the park manager at Bouge Chitto. Along the way, he found time to attend New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and obtained a degree in Church Music. Over the years, he has served several churches around Southwestern Mississippi, including Shiloh, Lexi, West McComb, Locust Street, and others. Everette was a dedicated, hard working man who thoroughly loved his time in the National Guard. He served over 20 years before retiring in 2006. A couple of years later, he retired from the state as well. He is lovingly remembered as a caring husband and father that was selfless if nothing else. Always there when needed, Everette worked to provide for his family and took care of most any need that arose. He could fix most anything and taught his sons too as well. In what little spare time he found, he continued to love fishing and took an occasional hunting trip here and there. He enjoyed travelling, with an annual trip to the mountains usually on the agenda. A great husband, father, and grandfather, Everette lived a full life, staying the course and running the race with faith. He will be sorely missed, until we meet again. Everette was preceded by his parents, Roy & Juanita Huhn, and his brother James; his daughter-in-law Michelle Huhn, one sister-in-law Drexell Huhn and a brother-in-law, Chris Graves. Left to press on and cherish his memories are: his loving wife Nelda, and son Shawn Huhn, both of Sumrall, and son Craig (Reshea) Huhn of Columbia; his sister, Linda Faye Huhn Graves, also of Sumrall, and brothers Roy Gene Huhn of Tylertown and Van Huhn of McComb. Everette leaves a legacy of three grandchildren: Monica, Autumn, and Ashton (Chasity) Huhn, with one great-grand, Anna Claire Huhn, along with numerous extended family, friends, and fellow service men and women through the years. Services have been set for Saturday, June 18th at Oral Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Johnny Martin officiating. Afterward, Everette will be laid to rest in the church cemetery with full military honors. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Huhn family in their time of need. Please keep Ms. Nelda, Shawn, Craig and the entire family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
