Ruth Learlyne (Lee) Wyres, 94 of Lumberton, passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 14th at Bedford Care Center in Petal. Ruth was the daughter of Tillous and Myrtie Lee, born March 24, 1927 in Pearl River County. A graduate of Lumberton High School in 1945, Ruth was a Christian by faith and active member of Sand Hill Baptist Church. In her career, she worked five years at Travis' Variety Store in Lumberton, ten years at Morrison's Cafeteria in Hattiesburg and fifteen years at Adventist Health Care in Purvis before her retirement. Ruth married Eugene Daulton Wyres on August 31, 1946 and they made their home in Lumberton and raised their two children. Ruth was the most loving, hard working woman you'd ever want to meet. An humble lady who loved children, right along with her husband Daulton, they were referred as "Nanny and Papa" by most kids, even those not related to them. Ruth made sure that Papa always had juicy fruit and peppermints in his pockets for the children at church. A life-long resident of Lumberton, Nanny Ruth will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded by her parents, Tillous & Mertie Lee, her sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia (Obie) Freeman, and her loving, devoted husband of 62 years, Eugene Daulton Wyres. Left to cherish her memories are the joys of her life: her daughter Melanie Ruth (Scott) Curl of Washington state, and son Daulton Wyres of Lumberton; one granddaughter, Tiffany (B.J.) Townsend, and her great-granddaughter, Taylor Reese Townsend, all of Petal. Services are set for Wednesday, April 21st at Trinity Funeral Services' Lumberton office. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM, with the funeral service to begin at 3:00. Afterward she will be laid to rest in the Lumberton City Cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Wyres family in this difficult time. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
