Rogers Joseph Ponthieux Sr., 80, of Saucier, MS passed away August 22, 2023. Born in Pineville, LA on July 15, 1943 to Murphy and Lillian (Roy) Ponthieux. He was as Cajun as they come and spent his early years in New Orleans before moving to Saucier, MS. In 1964, he married his feisty sweetheart, Mary Penton Ponthieux, and together they created a family as lively and diverse as a Mardi Gras parade. Rogers and Mary had ten children. Yes, you read that right, ten. The man loved a challenge. His work as a wrecker truck driver was never dull, and he was as reliable as the southern sun was hot. He had a knack for fixing up cars and working on anything he could get his hands on, but he enjoyed those greasy hands and days working under the hoods of old cars. Rogers never started his morning without a hot cup of coffee in hand and ending his evenings with a marshmallow treat. Let’s face it, the man loved his sweets almost as much as he loved his family. “PawPaw” was a name he wore proudly from his many grandbabies and great grandbabies. But don’t let that teddy bear side fool you, Rogers was as stubborn as a mule, twice as ornery and tough as nails. He will be missed, but his spirit will live on in the laughter, love, and stubbornness of his family. As they say in the South, "Laissez les bons temps rouler!" Let the good times roll, Rogers. He was preceded by his parents, Murphy Ponthieux and Lillian Roy; sons, John Wayne and Leon Roy Ponthieux; granddaughter, Sara Lynn Ponthieux; in-laws, Frank Cyril Penton and Zoeia Arceneaux Penton; three brothers, Robert M, Huey, and Donald Ponthieux; and sister, Elaine Ponthieux. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Penton Ponthieux, and their eight children, Lillian, Donna, Patricia, Esther, Racheal, Rogers Jr., Frank (Sylvia), and Jesse (Lisa); and six siblings, Edgar (Trudy) Ponthieux, Paul (Shirley) Ponthieux, Douglas Ponthieux, Gerald (Dora) Ponthieux, Sandra Ann (Perry) Fincher, and Cora Mae (Larry) Sharp; seventeen grandbabies and twenty-six great grandbabies. Along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Ponthieux family during this difficult time and would ask that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
