Robert Michael Sterling passed from this life and into the next one Saturday afternoon, October 31, 2020, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. Michael was born in Lumberton, but has lived in Opelika for many years. He was a member of the Lumberton High School Class of 1986, continuing on to obtain a Masters Degree in structural design. Michael workd as Design Manager for IES there in Opelika for 19 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, woodwork, and was an avid fisherman that loved to be on the water. One of his favorite spots was Lake Washington, located in Glen Allen, MS, where he enjoyed going with his father, brother and son. Michael was well known as a drummer in the LHS Panther marching band and a dear friend to many. He was the protector of his two sisters and a friend to his brother. Michael was the family member that everyone waited for to get home at Christmas. He loved his nieces and nephews as his own and was always actively interested in knowing what they were up to. He was witty, caring, devoted and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded by his mother, Irene Sterling, as well as his maternal and paternal grandparents. Michael is survived by his father, Robert Michael Sterling; one brother, Clay Sterling; sisters Susie (Greg) Piercy and Kim Burge; his son Christopher Pease; three grandchildren and multiple nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. His wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring. A memorial service has been set for 11:00 AM Saturday, November 7, 2020, at Trinity Funeral Services' Lumberton location.
