Ms. Rita Whisenant, 69, of Perkinston, MS passed away peacefully, surrounded by the ones she loved, on August 30, 2021. The youngest of six children, to William and Bertha Lee (Williams) Whisenant, Rita was born July 6, 1952 in Gulfport, MS. Growing up in Perkinston, MS, Rita loved a good fishing hole. She enjoyed working on a variety of puzzle books. So much that Rita worked on them until her sight was taken from her. Rita had a very strong work ethic, she worked as a custodian on Keesler Air Force Base in the hospitality department. After retirement, Rita's focus shifted to her grands and great grands. Rita always made it priority to put her family first. Rita's great grandbabies are what kept her "kickin"! Approaching her final days, Rita's grandchildren were not allowed to visit her in the hospital, making it an easy decision to come home on hospice care, where she would spend her final days with her babies. Rita was a hard patient to please when it came to her healthcare. However, Kare In Home Hospice had a way of going above and beyond, making Rita and her family feel like a priority in her final days. Rita absolutely adored her nurses and the Whisenant family would like to express their gratitude to Kare In Home Hospice of Wiggins for the wonderful care they provided to their loved one. Preceding Rita in death are her parents William and Bertha Lee (Williams) Whisenant; two brothers, Timothy and George Whisenant; and one sister, Sandy Sumrall. Left to cherish her memory are, her daughter, Jamie (Kendall) Cuevas of Perkinston, MS; her son, Richard (Melissa) Whisenant of Springdale, AK; her siblings, William Floyd Whisenant Jr. of Gulfport, MS and Vicky Macgill of Wiggins, MS. Rita leaves a legacy of 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Whisenant family during this very difficult time and would ask that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers in the days to come.
