Rachel Meadows Obituary

Rachel Collette Meadows, 54 of Gulfport, passed away Saturday at Memorial Hospital. She is the oldest of two children to David Crockett and Yolanda Faye (Briggs) Daniel, born March 10, 1966 in Picayune. Rachel grew up in the small rural community of Carriere, an outgoing and very bright young lady. She developed an affinity for trains, maybe because the tracks run through Carriere and they run through regularly. Rachel was an excellent student, one that rarely if ever had to study. She graduated from Picayune High School, a member of the Class of 1984, moving on to MGCCC's Jeff Davis campus where she studied drafting. In this time, Rachel was introduced to Richard Meadows at church and the two had been dating. They were married in 1988 and made their home in Gulfport. After their second child was born, Rachel became a full time mother for the next few years. She did return to work after both her kids were in school, working in the cafeteria at Bayou View Elementary for several years. She is remembered as a loving and wise mother that shared her wisdom with her children as they grew and always putting them first. Rachel always made sure they had what they needed growing up. While her kids and family were at the top of her list, her caring heart often extended to others before considering herself. A Christian by faith, Rachel attended Living Word Church in Saucier and did her best to put her faith into action every day. A selfless, loving person with a huge, caring heart, she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Rachel's memories will be cherished by her husband of 32 years, Richard Wayne Meadows; their two children, Vinnie Meadows of Gulfport and Colleen Meadows of Biloxi; her mother Yolanda Naranjo of Saucier, and her father David Daniel of Poplarville; her brother Gentry (Beverly) Daniel of D'iberville, and their children Bradley and Wende, along with numerous extended family, friends and neighbors. Her final wishes were to be cremated, which her family is honoring. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
