Ottis Brian Matthew Hagwood, known to most as "Matt", passed away Sunday at UMMC in Jackson. He was born November 27, 1986, which just happened to be Thanksgiving that year, the son of Brian Lee and Priscilla (Wilson) Hagwood. From then he has been lovingly referred to as a "turkey baby". Named Ottis Brian Matthew, those that knew him best called him "Matt". He grew up in Poplarville and Birmingham, where he enjoyed most things outdoors. Boating and fishing, playing golf and riding his Razor, were all among his favorite things to do. He graduated from Poplarville High School in 2005 and went on to Pearl River Community College. From there, Matt went to USM, obtaining his Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, which he put to good use in the oil field. Another hobby of his was guns, which progressed into building them. From that, he decided to open Spunkmeyer Armament, LLC, which he and his wife operated for the past couple of years. Matt took great pride in his work, building several custom guns for people. His specialty was AR-10s & 15s, with some very intricate and detailed work put into each one he built. Matt was always happy-go-lucky with a smile on his face. His jovial personality lit up the room when he entered and people were naturally drawn to him. A born-again Christian by faith, Matt was a member of Richburg Baptist Church. He is remembered as a very respectful person that possessed a huge, giving heart. A selfless, loving son, brother, husband and father, Matt will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all whose life he touched. He was preceded by his paternal grandparents, Leon & Barbara Hagwood, and his maternal grandfather, Ottis Wilson. Left to cherish the many memories are: his loving wife Jansen; his only son, Abel Hagwood; his mother Priscilla Hagwood, and his father, Brian (Theresa) Hagwood; his brother Jon Hagwood of Saucier and sister Renee Davis of Poplarville; his maternal grandmother Glorine Wilson, an aunt, Lachee Davis, his uncle, Travis Ladner and cousin Trey Davis, all of Poplarville, along with many extended family, friends, neighbors and happy customers over the short years of his life. Visitation is set for Thursday evening, June 25th from 6:00 until 9:00 PM at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry. A chapel service will begin at 10:00 AM Friday morning, and afterward Matt will be laid to rest in the Barney Hickman Cemetery off Happy Lake Road in Saucier. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Hagwood family in their time of need. Please keep Jansen and the entire family in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
