Oliver Shelton Obituary

Oliver George Shelton, 63 of the Lake-a-way community in Wiggins, passed away Thursday evening at Memorial Hospital of Stone County. George was seventh of nine children and son of James Donald "J.D." & Mamie Florence (Hanks) Shelton. Born in Texas, he grew up all around South Louisiana and loved to fish. George was a rambunctious young man, a prankster that loved a good laugh. He made his career working metal and iron, becoming one of the best connectors around. George was a born-again believer and attended Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge before moving to MS. Over his life, he has been a tad accident prone. He has had motorcycle accidents, vehicle accidents, even a boating accident while on a mission trip to Peru. Later in life, he loved to go visit his brothers who lived on the river and fish. George loved his family, enjoying being with them whenever he could. Get togethers and cookouts were a popular thing for him and his large family, usually involving the LSU Tigers or the New Orleans Saints, both of which he (and most of his family) loved as well. George loved reading his Bible and even had plans to write a book to encourage others to not follow a lot of the paths he had chosen in life. A caring, loving brother, husband and father, he will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all whose life he touched. He was preceded by his parents J.D. & Mamie Shelton; brothers Richard and Wayne Shelton, and a step-son Randy Degraw. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife of 20 years, Sheila (Wolf) Shelton; 11 children: Daniel (Michelle) Shelton of Independence, LA, Caleb & Jacob Shelton, both of Kentwood, LA, Jarren and Mikah Reagan, Cecilia Batchel, Shannon Broadus, Bobby, Daniel and Michael Reagan, all of Wiggins, Rachel Chaney, and Jamie (Sabrina) Dwyer of Breaux Birdge, LA; his siblings: Donald (Anne) Shelton of Maurepas, LA, Barbara Howansky of Seneca, SC, Hope (Glen) Elmore of Donaldsonville, GA, Paul (Velma) Shelton of Greenback, TN, Cindy (Joe) Cooper of Livingston, LA, and Keith (Tracie) Shelton of MO; sisters-in-law Dianna Shelton of Maurepas and Susan Shelton of Clinton, LA. George leaves a legacy of twenty-five grandchildren: Bryaus and Megan Ott, Tobey, Lilly, and Jacob Shelton, III, Kelsey Gann, Shane Ellis, Summer Bachtel, Steven Sturdivant, Amber Dillon, Cadence, Kiersten and Alyssa Broadus, Angel, Katelyn, Deanna, Makenzie, Daniel, Jr., Logan and Makaila Reagan, Kayden, Natalie, Vreanna, Laylah and Harmony Dwyer, and Randyn Degraw; with seven great-grands, his best friend in life, Marty King, plus numerous additional extended family, friends and neighbors through the years. George had his share of struggles in life, but is at peace now, resting comfortably in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His final wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring, with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
