Nadine May Hammond, 87 and formerly of Nebraska, passed away on Friday evening, August 12th at her home in McHenry. She was born June 20, 1935 in Omaha, Nebraska, one of two children to Walter and Merna (Strudel) Novotny. Nadine grew up in the Omaha area and loved the outdoors. Her father built a cabin in Minnesota where they enjoyed staying and fishing. She also liked horses and riding as much as she could. Nadine attended high school in Nebraska, and after graduation, went to work as a medical transcriptionist. Over her career, Nadine worked at a few different hospitals, and did a lot of her work from home as well before her retirement. In 2011, she decided to sell her home in Nebraska, and moved to South Mississippi to be closer to her kids and grandkids. She is lovingly remembered as a feisty and outspoken lady who told it just like it was. She loved her kids, but her grandchildren even more. And those great-grands, well let's just say that Nadine would literally move mountains for them. She continued to ride horses up until she was 80 years old, and loved watching the old western movies on television. She will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her. Nadine was preceded by her parents, Walter and Merna Novotny; her first husband Claiborne Saxton, and her second husband, Earl Hammond; her only sister, Betty Martin; and two sons, Mitchell and Dale Saxton. Left to cherish the many fond memories are: her daughter, Nona Lindberg of McHenry. Nadine leaves a legacy of four grandchildren: Heather (Ryan) Ellzey of Saucier, Christy (Timmy) Anderson of Pass Christian, Matthew Saxton and Michelle Johnson, both of Omaha, NE, with seven great-grands: Gage, Sierra, Ryland, Alexis, Evan, Robert, and Jordan, all of whom she loved dearly, along with numerous extended family and friends. Her final wishes were to be cremated without any fanfare, which her family is honoring. Nadine will be returned to Nebraska for interment at a later date. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Hammond family in their time of need, and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
