John Morgan Rush, Jr., 51 of Lumberton, passed away July 7, 2021 at his home. He was the son and oldest of five children to the late John M. Rush Sr. and Kathy Fern (Vice) Nichols, born March 16, 1970 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. John was preceded by his father, John M. Rush, Sr., and his dad who raised him, Bill Nichols. Left to cherish his memories are: his mother, Kathy Nichols of D'iberville; his four siblings: sisters Kristie (Bryan) Smith of D'iberville, Tami Keithly of Freemont, NE and Paige Brason of Council Bluffs, with his only brother William, also of Council Bluffs; his former wife Angela (Rush) Branting and her daughter Shay Brawner of Lewiston, ID, with several extended family members, friends and fellow truckers across the country. John grew up in Western Iowa, in Whiting and Council Bluffs. He loved the outdoors and living close to the Missouri River, he enjoyed camping, fishing doing things with the family. In his younger years he enjoyed rising his bicycle and playing baseball with his friends. His grandfather built woodcrafts and John spent lots of time with him. After his educational pursuits were over, he worked a few different jobs here and there, got married a couple of times and finally found a passion for driving. John became an over-the-road trucker, staying behind the wheel until his health forced his retirement. He fought his way through many issues over the years, including heart problems, COPD, Type II Diabetes and even had a bout with cancer. Through all of that, John remained a loving, caring family man. He enjoyed video games and visiting the casinos when he wasn't camping somewhere or trying to catch the next lunker. He had a quirky sense of humor that might seem odd if you didn't really know him, but John was the type that would help anyone, in any way he could. His final wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring, and will hold a private Celebration of his Life will be held July 22nd in D'iberville. In lieu of any floral arrangements, please consider making a donation to help the family offset funeral expenses. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Rush family in their time of need, asking everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
