Jack Steven Wilder, 84 of Perkinston, passed away at his home Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020. Jack was born July 1, 1936 in Bedford, IN, one of two children and son of Roscoe & Belva (Grubb) Wilder. He grew up on the family farm in Bedford and was always intrigued with cars. He came to enjoy drag racing and playing golf in his spare time. After graduating high school, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving 3 years on active duty and several years in the active reserve before retiring. After his discharge from active duty, Jack worked for the Virginia Beach Police Dept. and attended Old Dominion University, where he obtained a Masters degree in accounting. Jack accepted a position with the Taxation Department for the Commonwealth of Virginia and remained there for many years, retiring as District 2 Supervisor. He is remembered as a "great dad", always active with his sons and taught them much about life and living. He enjoyed boating and fishing, always taking them out fishing as often as possible. A member of American Legion Post 119 for many years, Jack was a quiet, above board and "ship-shape" man that loved his cars, especially the classic ones. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded by his parents, Roscoe & Belva Wilder. Left to cherish the fond memories are: his sons, Steve (Charlene) Wilder of Perkinston and Phil Wilder of Kilmarnock, VA; one sister, Lois Wilder of Evansville, IN and one brother, John (Peggy) Wilder of Belvidere, IL; his granddaughter Logan (Mike) McClantoc, with their daughter and his only great-grandchild, Luna. Jack will be laid to rest with military honors Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the Biloxi National Cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Wilder family and asks everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
