Harris Ladner Obituary

Harris Alexander Ladner, 94, passed away January 22, 2024 at his home in Pass Christian, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 11, 1930 at the family home in Hancock County, one of nine children to Curvis Andrew and Aline (Depreo) Ladner. Harris grew up on his grandparent's dairy farm in the Kiln community, milking and tending to cows most of his early years. Work was his foundation and he carried that strong ethic his entire life. Now he did hunt, fish, and play some basketball growing up...when he had some free time. Plus he also played while in school at Annunciation. He graduated in the late 1940's and joined the Merchant Marines, serving until he was drafted into the US Army. Harris served his term in the Army and was honorably discharged, returning home to Hancock county. He attended Pearl River Community College and after graduating, went to work for Coast Electric, then referred to as the REA. Harris started as a lineman, working his way up to Lineman Superintendent when he retired some 38 years later. He is remembered as loving, dedicated family man who literally worked every day. He met Jeanette while in college, and they have been together since. January 31, 2024 would have been their 70th wedding anniversary. Over that time, they have lived a wonderful life and raised their four children there in Hancock county. He was an outgoing man that loved his family and never ever met a stranger. After retiring, farming and raising his cows and hogs, cutting hay, and whatever else needed to be done were the norm. When all the chores were done, he enjoyed showing cars, hunting, fly fishing, and spending time with Jeanette and the family. Harris' life was long and blessed, and he enjoyed it every day. His memories will be forever cherished by all whose life he touched. He was preceded by his parents, Curvis and Aline Ladner; his son Barry Ladner, his daughter Glenda Ladner, and a granddaughter Josie Ladner; his sisters: Elaine Moran, Dorothy Cuevas, Faye Hutchinson, Sandra Caccioppo, with brothers Larry and Jimmy Ladner. Left to cherish his memories are: his devoted wife Jeanette; their two sons, Harris (Teressa) and Keith (Rhonda) Ladner; his sister Barbara Williams and his brother, Cotton Ladner. Harris leaves a legacy of seventeen grandchildren, including 5 grands: Kathy LeDell (Torrey) Johnson, Jenae (Jody) Jones, Colton (Devan) Harmon, Meghan (Josh) Peterson, and Jacquelyn Ladner; 8 great-grands: Bailey (Wade) Ladner, Lane Jones, Kane, Kree, and Kord Harmon, Madi Cuevas, with Kiptyn and Ramsey Peterson, and 4 great-great-grands: Lillian, Izzy, Berkleigh, and Hunter, along with countless extended family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers through the years. Services are set for Friday, January 26th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral mass at 1:00 PM. Afterward, Harris will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Cemetery at Rotten Bayou. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Ladner family in their time of need and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers through the days ahead.
