Obituary

Grady Lavon Slade, Sr., 78, of Janice, MS, passed away Friday, April 22, 2022, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. Grady was born four out of five children to James and Dorothy (Wright) Slade, on August 26, 1943, here in MS. Grady loved being outdoors! He was the happiest whenever he was camping in a national forest or floating down the creek. Despite how nervous it made his wife, Grady loved motorcycles and never let age get in his way of riding. Grady was a softy for eagles and stray animals. No collar?...No problem, Grady took them in and gave them a home. Most recently having just Tank and Delva, two pups whom he considered his four legged children. When it came to sports, Grady loved cheering for and coaching the Saints through the T.V. He would yell as if they could hear him and be highly upset if they didn't listen and lost. On a backpacking excursion out west, Grady was introduced to a beautiful young lady he would initially see in a photo, through mutual friends. Grady hitched a ride to Michigan and knocked on her door, it didn't take long for him to know he would marry her and spend forty-seven years happily married to Ellen. His and hers, they would raise five out of nine children together across the country before landing in MS over twenty-five years ago and making their forever home in the Janice community. Grady loved all the grand babies having nine children brought. But don't you dare punish those babies in front of papa, or ELSE! Grady loved his family and life itself. Ellen and his family will miss him immensely and take comfort knowing he's no longer suffering but rather enjoying a ride on a Harley through the clouds watching over them. Grady is preceded in death by his parents James and Dorothy (Wright) Slade and his siblings Frances, James, Frank, and Dorothy. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of forty-seven years, Ellen (Hittle) Slade of Janice, MS; his children Tammy (Jackie) Sims, Dorothy Slade, Grady Slade Jr., and Thomas Slade all of GA, Valerie Adams, Jeff Miller, and Iris (Leonard) Rasberry all of Janice, MS., Randy (Ronnie) Miller and David (Brandy) Miller both of MI. Grady leaves a legacy of seventeen grandchildren, ten great grands, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Slade family during this difficult time and would ask that you remember Ellen and the rest of the family in your prayers during the days to come.
