Gladys Edwards Obituary

Gladys Etta Edwards, 81 of Purvis, passed away at her home Tuesday evening, November 17, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 6, 1939 in Hartford, CT, the daughter of Clarence Dougles and Ette Dimmick (Foster) Robinson. Gladys grew up in Connecticut before moving to St. Petersburg, FL, where she graduated high school. She went to work at an early age as a car hop, spending her career mostly in foodservice. She married first to Henry L. Lowe while in Florida, moving to Baxterville in 1958 and has lived in South MS since. After her first husband passed away, Gladys met and married Clyde Edwards, Jr. She was Christian by faith, Baptist by choice and attended Little Black Creek Church. Of her favorite passages of scripture is Isaiah 40:31 - "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Many will remember her from her many years in the cafeteria at Lumberton High School, where she eventually retired. A loving mother and grandmother, she will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all whose life she touched. Gladys was preceded by: her parents Clarence & Etta Robinson; her brother Douglas Robinson; two husbands, Huey Lowe and Clyde Edwards, Sr.; two sons, Huey Lowe, Jr. and Colen Lowe, a daughter, Amanda Lowe, twin infant boys, and a grandson, Lucas Guiles. Left to cherish her memories are: her daughters, Linda (Kenneth) Piercy of Purvis,  Shirley McKean and Effie (Frankie) Bryant, both of Baxterville, Barbara Lowe of Hattiesburg, Mary Jane Edwards and Amanda M. Edwards, both of Wiggins, and her son John B. Lowe of Baxterville; a sister Doris Russell, and brother Thomas Robinson, both of FL, and her brother William Robinson of Georgia. Gladys leaves a legacy of thirty grandchildren, fourty-four great-grands, and three great-great-grands, along with numerous extended family and friends over the years.  Gladys' final wishes were to be cremated, which her family is honoring. A memorial service is set for Friday afternoon, November 20, 2020,1:00 PM at Little Black Creek Baptist Church. Pastor Jessie Ladner will officiate.
