Ethel Colleen Rhodes, known affectionately as Colleen, passed away August 13, 2023 in Tomball, Texas. She was born in Santaquin, Utah on August 30, 1941, the daughter of Curtis and Ethel (Keele) Smith. Colleen was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who led a life filled with love, faith, adventures and creativity. She was a loving and devoted wife to her late husband of 65 years, Lewis Rhodes, Sr., and a loving, nurturing mother to her six children: Lewis (Wendy) Rhodes, Jr., Jeff (Joy) Rhodes, Barbara Rhodes, David (Julie) Rhodes, Tim Rhodes, and her late daughter, Debra Rhodes. Her life was enriched by her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. They include Chris (Stephanie) Rhodes, Joshua Rhodes, Shelly (Brandon) Bozeman, Nick (Shelby) Rhodes, Jake (Leann) Rhodes, Joey Rhodes, Justin Rhodes, Joshua Rhodes, Nikyta Rhodes, Mack (Kaitlyn) Rhodes, and their respective children.
Colleen's work history was as diverse as it was fulfilling. She took great pride in being a homemaker and mother to her six children. Her faithful spirit also led her to serve as a Sunday school teacher, where she had the opportunity to share her faith with the younger generation. Colleen's industrious nature saw her working in various roles throughout her life, from babysitting during her childhood to serving in the school cafeteria, working in the family logging business, and in the meat market of a local grocery store in Wiggins, MS. Her life was filled with many adventures having lived in numerous places throughout her life, raising her children in Perkinston, MS and then living the last 29 years in Trinity, TX.
Colleen's creativity shone brightly in her many interests. She was an artist who enjoyed drawing and painting. Her creative talents extended to crocheting, woodworking, and maintaining a beautiful flower garden. Her creations were a reflection of her spirit - vibrant, warm, and full of life. Colleen was best described as loving, friendly, faith-filled, creative, handy, selfless and gentle. Her creativity was evident not only in her artistic pursuits but also in her problem-solving abilities and her innovative approach to life's challenges. Her love was all-encompassing, extending from her family to her friends and her community. Colleen's faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and shaping her into the compassionate and understanding woman she was. Colleen's life was a testament to her resilience, her faith, and her unwavering love for her family. She was a beacon of strength and love for her family, and her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of those she leaves behind. Her life was a beautiful and sometimes difficult journey, filled with significant moments that shaped her and those around her. Colleen's loss is deeply felt by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a source of joy and inspiration, and her memories will forever be cherished. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate her life, remembering the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the difference she made in this world. Ethel Colleen Rhodes may have departed this world, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. Rest in peace, dear Colleen, until we meet again.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry, MS. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, followed by a chapel service at 11:00 AM. Afterward Colleen will be laid to rest beside her late husband in the New Zion Methodist Church Cemetery.
