Althy Elizabeth Chandler Martin, 88 years young, of Long Beach, MS, passed April 25, 2021 at Gulfport Memorial Hospital. Elizabeth was born on September 14, 1932 in Decatur, MS to Walter and Ludie Chandler. She is reunited in death with her parents; her husband, Charles Cecil Martin Jr. and her daughters, Carolyn Reed, Candy Binder, and Kim Martin. She leaves to cherish her memory; her sons, Chuck (Belinda) Martin III and Kent Martin along with 24 grand and great grandchildren, extended family and friends. Elizabeth was the middle child of 10 siblings. She grew up on a farm in Little Rock, MS and enjoyed gardening in her younger days and was well known for her green thumb. She will be remembered as a simply country lady; she loved games shows, word searches and was an excellent cook. Some of Ms. Elizabeth’s signature dishes included her fried chicken, chicken-n-rice, cornbread dressing and potato salad. She was a member of Burton Memorial Methodist Church. Most people considered Elizabeth as close to a saint as you could be this side of heaven. Between her sense of humor and smile, she could comfort anyone. She provided support and love to her family and friends throughout the years. Elizabeth was a great wife, mother, sister and friend. She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 28 at First Baptist Church of Lizana from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. Brother Donnie Parker and Brother Cordero Martin will be officiating services at 11:30 am. A private interment will follow at the Biloxi National Cemetery where Elizabeth will be laid to rest next to her husband. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local church or charity.
