Edward Lamar Holland, 70 of Kiln, passed away Monday at Memorial Hospital Gulfport after a lengthy illness. He was born November 30, 1949 in Lucedale, the son and oldest of six children to Dock Lamar & Grace Evelyn (Carter) Holland. He would grow up all around South MS, with most of that time spent in the Gulfport area. "Ed" as he was known to most, loved motorcycles from an early age. In fact, he used to ride down I-10 while it was still dirt and underconstruction, to the Wolfe River. That was as far as he could ride because the bridge across had not been built at the time. He loved to laugh and enjoyed a good joke, both to tell or hear. Shortly after graduating from Oak Grove High School in the late 60s, Ed was drafted into the United States Navy, serving honorably for 4 years aboard the USS Ranger. After his discharge, he worked a bit with his father installing carpet before deciding to go to HVAC school. Ed made a career installing and repairing heating and air systems. He was a fun-loving, jovial guy that adored his family, and rooted for Alabama and New Orleans Saints football teams. In his spare time, he enjoyed carving, making many walking sticks and other items over the years. Ed also enjoyed making knives, some of which are still being used today. He is remembered as a "straight shooter that stood up for what he believed in". A loving brother, great father and wonderful father-in-law, he will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded by his parents, Dock & Grace Holland. Left to cherish his memories are: his two children: daughter Amber (James) Byrd of Seminary, and son, Jason Holland of Laurel; six grandchildren: Hayli (Corey Stevens), Tony and Gabe Dyess, with Hope and twins Ayden and Brayden Holland; one great-grandchild, Elijah Kole Stevens; sisters Laura (Doug) Vierling, Linda (Mike) Johnston, Janice (O'Neal) Cuevas, and Debbie Slusser (Theresa), and one brother, James Holland, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The family will receive friends for visitation Thursday evening, February 13, 2020 at Breaking the Barrier Ministries from 6:00 until 9:00 PM. Ed will be laid to rest at Biloxi National Cemetery Friday morning at 9:00 AM, with honors provided by the US Navy. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Holland family in their time of need, and asks everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
