Durel Levron, Sr. Obituary

Durel Gilbert Levron, Sr., 74 of Pass Christian, passed away Wednesday, July 14th at St. Joseph Hospice in Gulfport. He was born November 19, 1946 in New Orleans, the oldest of five children to Wilsey Joseph and Flossie Marie (Martin) Levron. Growing up in St. Bernard Parish, Durel was the outdoors type, enjoying hunting, fishing and other things a South LA boy would. As the oldest, he would often be reqiured to help his mother out with his younger siblings, while his father worked as a carpenter. He attended St. Bernard schools, opting to enter the workforce at a young age. Durel worked a few odd jobs around for a while, including the shrimp factory at one point, until he discovered that he could be paid for driving. He became a commercial driver over the road, spending his career behind the wheel of big rigs. Durel had found his niche in life and was happy, for the most part anyway. He could have a bit of a "salty attitude" at times, but that's just who he was. If you could get past that, you found a loving, caring man who would eagerly help anyone he could. Durel enjoyed meeting people and was the type that never met a stranger. In his spare time, he collected things, like stamps, coins, old Mardi Gras doubloons and more. He was a classic car enthusiast and also collected models of them as well. He was a Christian by faith and a Baptist by choice. Durel loved his family and had the biggest heart. He will no doubt be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded by his parents, Wilsey & Flossie Levron. Left to cherish the many fond memories are: his two children, Durel (Sheryl) Levron, Jr. of Pass Christian and Aude (Shannon) Levron of Kiln; his brother, Levan (JoAnne) Levron and sister Wynona Beloso, both of St. Bernard, and sisters Lanelle Arceneaux of Ponchatoula and Deette (Barry) Geraci of Slidell. Durel leaves a legacy of five grandchildren and two great-grands, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends across the country. His final wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring, with a celebration of his life to be held at a later date.
