Dorothy Kay (Allen) Alexander

February 25, 1961 — December 3, 2020

Perkinston, MS

Dorothy Kay Alexander, 59 of the Silver Run Lake community in Perkinston, went into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday evening, December 3rd at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport. Dorothy was born February 25, 1961, the forth of six and youngest daughter of Russell Warren and Ethel Arlene (Skinner) Allen. She grew up on South Bayou Bernard Road in Gulfport where she enjoyed cooking, sewing and painting crafts. Her dad make all sorts of what-nots and Dorothy would paint them. She graduated from Harrison Central High School, a member of the Class of 1979 and continued on to MGCCC where she studied nursing. Just short of graduating in 1982, Dorothy decided to get married to Dean Alexander and the couple made thier home in Long Beach initially. Over the next few years, they lived in Missouri and Virginia for a while before returning to South MS. Dorothy was never idle, rather always working somewhere to provide for her family. She has driven school busses, worked part-time at the post office in Perk and much more in her life. She worked for Sue Richardson and Community Accounting for several years, and even had her own paper route for a while, where she (with her kids at times) threw many a newspaper and at least one pesky bird from her van. Dorothy is remembered as a kind-hearted woman in every sense of the word. Her kids fondly called her "the Wizard", because no matter what it was, she knew and had an answer for everything. There was never a night without a home-cooked meal and her kids didn't usually hang out at their friends houses, because all their friends wanted to hang out at their house all because Dorothy made it home. She became a Christian at 17 and lived her life serving the Lord. A faithful member at North Spoon Baptist Church for the past 11 years, she served with VBS, Sunday School, crafts and much more. A loving sister, wife, and mother, Dorothy will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all whose life she touched. She was preceded by her parents, Russell and Arlene Allen. Left to cherish the many fond memories are: her loving husband of over 38 years, Dean Alexander; their children: daughters Dorene (Phillip) Reynolds of Gulfport, and Hollie Alexander of Silver Run, and sons Anthony (Nikki) Alexander of Saucier and Austin (Holli) Alexander of McHenry; her sisters Rolene Harden of Gulfport, Karen Penton and Bonnie Allen, both of Silver Run, and twin brothers, Darryn (Lisa) and David Allen, both of Gulfport; and her life-long best friend, Vicky Kennard of MO. Dorothy leaves a legacy of thirteen grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends over the years. Services will be held Monday, Dec. 7, 2020 at North Spoon Baptist Church Tabernacle with Pastor Billy Ray Bond officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Afterward, Dorothy will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Alexander family in their time of need, asking everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
