David Williams Obituary

David Mitchell Williams, 65, passed away on August 09, 2022 at at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport. He was born on September 15, 1956 in Taylorville, MS, the fourth of six children to Floyd and Annie Mae (Blakeney) Williams. Mitch, as he has been known all his life, grew up in Gulfport and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and racing, but not necessarily in that order. Mitch loved squirrel and deer hunting, being among the few that still squirrel hunted in recent years. He also enjoyed football, playing while attending Harrison Central High School. Mitch graduated with the Class of 1974 and went to work for a local car lot, washing cars. While there, he also began to learn a bit about painting and body work. He became was very interested in that and learned very quickly, eventually swapping over to the body shop. He worked at Kilgore's Body Shop, Bert Allen Toyota, and then Dauro's Body Shop in Long Beach over the next fifteen or so years, before deciding to open his own shop in Saucier. Mitch Williams' Paint / Body & Towing became a reality, and Mitch ran it for the next fifteen years before retiring in 2007. Over those years, Mitch has towed, repaired, and/or painted, literally thousands of vehicles. When he wasn't in the shop, you could probably find him at the track. Mitch loved him some dirt track racing now, driving his own car for many years at Menge Avenue and the Old 67 race tracks. In his spare time, Mitch also had a couple of wagons, with horses and mules to pull them. You've probably seen him riding around the community, or even going to the Dixie National rodeo at times. Of course he still hunted and fished, but when indoors, he enjoyed watching dirt track racing on tv. He was so proud of his sons, both of whom are also working in the paint and body field today, and dirt track raced as well. He truly enjoyed watching them race and would stream them at home when he couldn't be there in person. Mitch is remembered as a jovial, humble man that never met a stranger. He would give you his shirt if you needed it and do his best to make you laugh in the process. A loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather, he will be sadly missed by all whose life he touched. Mitch was preceded by his parents, Floyd Williams and Annie Mae Carmack, and his brother, Johnny Williams. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife of nearly forty-six years, Theresa; their two sons, Michael Williams and Greg (Shannon) Williams, both of Saucier; his sisters, Geraldine (Bobby) Campbell, Landis (Ricky) Perronne, and Vicky Hickman, all of Gulfport, with his brother Wayne (Judy) Williams of Long Beach. Mitch leaves a legacy of six grandchildren: Haley, Hayden, Brooke, Connor, and Kruz Williams, and Kailynn Tubbs, along with numerous extended family, more friends that one could count, and even more happy customers through the years. His final wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring. A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2022, from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry, for all who wish to come remember Mitch and support the family.
