David Showes Obituary

David Woodrow Showes, better known as "Mr. David" around his hometown of Brooklyn, MS, passed away Wednesday evening at his home. He was the oldest of eight children to Woodrow and Marilyn Joyce (Ashe) Showes, born January 26, 1954 in Hattiesburg. David grew up in and around New Augusta, where he came to enjoy hunting, fishing and drag racing, participating in all three as often as possible. A loving and protective older brother, David was always the one who made sure his younger siblings got their chores done. He went to work offshore, working his way up to driller over the years, until he was severely injured in a vehicle accident. Doctors told the family he would be more or less a vegetable for the rest of his life, and even that wouldn't be long. Well David was determined to say the least because that was in March of 1980, just 41 years ago! He never gave up, progressing to doing most anything he wanted and living alone, taking care of himself. David either walked or caught a ride to wherever he needed or wanted to go and was well known in Brooklyn and beyond. He was the type that always saw the good in people, telling folks they had a beautiful smile wherever he went. David's reply to most anything that came his way was, "It ain't no problem." Even though he had his ways, even a bit headstrong at times, he managed life his way. David will be fondly remembered as a loving brother, father, grandfather and friend, that will be forever missed by all whose life he touched. He was preceded by his parents, Woodrow & Marilyn Showes, two of his brothers, James and William, his wife Emma Cruthirds Showes and a son, David C. Showes. Left to cherish his memories are: his son Philip (Jennifer) Showes of Wiggins; sisters Patricia (Rev. Jimmy) Graham and Linda Pledger, both of New Augusta, Brenda Mayo (Joe Ezell) of St. Bernard, LA, Nancy (Sam) Boyte of Brooklyn, and a brother Floyd Showes of Olive Branch, MS. He leaves a legacy of five grandchildren: J.P., Blake, Jase, Carleigh and Catherine, with one great-grandson, Levi. A graveside service has been set for Monday, March 8, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the True Way Baptist Church Cemetery in Brooklyn, with Rev. Jimmy Graham officiating.
