Darlene Tucker Obituary

Darlene Tucker, 76 of Lumberton, passed away Sept. 17th at Merit Health in Hattiesburg. She was born November 19, 1948 in Jacksonville, FL, the daughter of Edgar Darwin and Georgia Mae (Sweet) Calongne. Darlene spent most of her childhood in Jacksonville before the family moved to New Orleans. She was a spontaneous and outgoing people-person, a trait which would serve her well in waitressing. Following her academic pursuits, she added mixology to her resume and was quite accomplished. While working at "The Branding Iron", a young fellow walked in for a drink after work and caught her eye. She even told some of her friends that he would be her husband. True to her word, her and Bobby Tucker were married in 1979 and made their home in Lake Catherine for several years. In 2004, they decided to move to Lumberton on a whim. That move proved to be a wise decision, as their LA home was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina. Darlene is remembered as a fun person to be around. She enjoyed shopping and visiting her family and friends. Among her favorite places were Goodwill, Hudson's and Salvation Army stores, where she could plunder, always looking for treasures and often finding them. She was a Christian by faith, and attended First Baptist Church in Lumberton. A family oriented woman, Darlene will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Preceded by her parents, she leaves to cherish her memories: her loving husband of 41 years, Bobby Ray Tucker; a sister Noel (Brian) Williams of Jacksonville, and brother Pierre Calongne of Kenner, LA. Though they didn't have any biological children, Darlene has had many four=pawed kids over the years. She leaves "Sweetie" and "Patches", both Great Danes, and "Shadow" her Chihuahua to keep Bobby company. Her final wishes were to be cremated, which her family is honoring. A memorial service may be held at a later date. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Tucker family in their time of need, asking everyone to keep Bobby and the rest of the family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
