Carolyn Jean Smith, 72 of Purvis, passed away November 23, 2022 at Merit Health Wesley in Hattiesburg. She was born on January 11, 1950, in Gladewater, TX, and was a longtime resident of Purvis. She was preceded in death by her parents Winford “Wimp” and Imogene “Jean” Ellis, and her husband of over fifty years, Ellis Michael “Mike” Smith. She is survived by her children: Gwen Shepherd (Matt Senge) of Hattiesburg, Jeff Smith (Tonya) of Purvis, and Adam Smith (Deidra) of Lumberton, and her two sisters, Vicki Knisley of Circleville, OH, and Donna Patterson of Delaware, OH. She leaves a legacy of ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished. Carolyn was a Christian by faith, which was evidenced by her servant's heart and her eagerness to help those in need. She enjoyed studying the Bible, keeping up with her friends and family, and she possessed a zeal for life and for others. She collected small porcelain and ceramic shoe figurines over the years, managing to build up quite a collection. Her favorite past-time was cooking, and she enjoyed sharing her meals and recipes with those she loved. A dear friend to many, Carolyn always had a smile and an encouraging word for those she met in life. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Carolyn will be forever missed by all whose lives she touched. Carolyn's final wishes were to be cremated, which her family is honoring. A celebration of her life will be held at First Baptist Church of Purvis where faithfully served for many years, on December 19th at 6:00 PM, with everyone welcome. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Smith family in their time of need and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
