Carlene (Brigdon) Carter

Carlene Carter, 77, of Gulfport, MS., passed away Sunday, May 29, at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport. Carlene was born an only child to Carl A. and Myrtle Lee (Dawson) Brigdon, on January 21, 1945, in Biloxi, MS. Carlene was a loving woman who her family will remember as their backbone! She was always there for them and never hesitated to have a houseful of grandbabies while mom and dad worked. Carlene had a passion for children and spent many years volunteering for Eastward Elementary, where she received an award for Changing the Future of young children. She was active in her church and was always willing to serve in any way she could, to help. For fun, Carlene enjoyed arts and crafts as well as calligraphy, which she enjoyed the most. Carlene loved her family and spending time surrounded by them all. She was extremely grateful for the relationship she shared with her grand- daughter, Gabby, and the time and love Gabby devoted to her over the years while helping with her care. Carlene is preceded in death by her loving husband Donald Carter, Jr.; her parents Carl A. and Myrtle Lee (Dawson) Brigdon; and one son Gary E. Carter. Left to cherish her memory are her children Donald (Anita) Carter, III of Manheim, PA and Leighan Richey of Gulfport, MS. Carlene leaves a legacy of eleven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. A graveside service for Ms. Carlene will be Thursday, June 2, 2022, at Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport, MS beginning at 10:00 am.
