Bobby Earl Dykes, 74, of Gulfport, Ms., entered his heavenly home early Thursday morning April 14, 2022, in the comfort of his home. Bobby was born on July 04, 1947, in Bogalusa, LA to Curtis and Lynda (Cowart) Dykes. He grew up five out of seven children in Ajo, Arizona before moving to Gulfport, Ms., where he would spend the rest of his life raising his family. Bobby loved the great outdoors, fishing and hunting were a few of his favorite things to do. As a child, while in Arizona, Bobby enjoyed going into the desert where he would look for rocks with his uncle Manny. Once moving to Gulfport, he lived across from the rail-road tracks, where he loved to lay pennies on the tracks and let the trains flatten them. Bobby served proudly in the Army, where he fought in the Vietnam War. After leaving the military, he made an honest living as a carpenter in the construction world. In 1972, he met the love of his life, Donna, who he would spend forty-eight wonderful years married to. Together they raised children, grandchildren, and even a few nieces. Their home was always full of children along with a lot of love and laughter!! Bobby loved to tell stories and was full of life lessons for all of his kiddos. He and Donna loved to cook together in the kitchen where they would dance to Elvis and prepare gumbo and turkey dinner meals for others in need. Bobby's tacos and tostadas will be greatly missed, as he was most famous for these. He was a protector who loved being surrounded by his family! Bobby's kids were special, but those grandbabies were his pride and joy. From trips to the splash pad to banana splits at Herrin's One Stop, Bobby loved doating on his grandbabies. He was a man who loved being on a boat and tried to get Donna to share the love of being on the water with him, but if she couldn't see or get back to land, then she was NOT getting on that boat! Bobby loved Donna and spent his life making her happy, finally realizing gift-cards were the way to her heart! They spent many years traveling together and stopping in at different flea markets along the way, they were easy to please and loved just spending their time together no matter where life took them. Bobby was a man of God, and his family finds comfort knowing where he is today! He enjoyed hearing God's word at Christian Worship Center as well as Living Waters in Gulfport, MS. He is preceded in death by his parents Curtis James Dykes and Lynda (Cowart) Odom and stepfather Red Odom; two children Stephen Holland and Bobby Earl Dykes, Jr; brothers Eddie, Ernie, Elvin, and Curtis Dykes; and one sister Betty Ferrill. Left here to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 48 years Donna Dykes of Gulfport, MS; his children Benson (Amanda) Dykes of Wiggins, Scott (Joley) Dykes of Crain Creek, Craig (Patti) Dykes of Mississippi, Stephen Dykes, and Karen (Eddie) Hilliard both of Gulfport; one brother Vernon Odom; granddaughters he raised Bailee and Mikayla Holland; two nieces he raised Shannon and Terri Ann; sisters in law that spoiled him rotten Karen Ann McKnight, Jeanie Brown, Linnea Sweatt and Sharon Hopkins; one brother-in-law Keith; a friend close like a sister, Andrea Leggan of Gulfport; his best friend for many years Daryl; and his best four legged pal Ruffus, who his family claims to be the favorite. Bobby leaves behind a legacy of 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family. Family and friends will be received Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry, MS for a visitation followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm. Mr. Bobby's wishes were to be cremated which his family will be honoring following his service. The family would like to thank Kare-In-Home Hospice for all they provided for Bobby as well a family friend Mary Todd who was there to help as much the family needed. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Dykes family during this difficult time and would ask that you remember Donna and the rest of the family in your prayers in the days to come.
