April Ann (Starnes) Pope

April Ann Pope, 60, passed away December 26th 2021 at her home in Gulfport, with her loving husband holding her hand. She was born on December 23, 1961 in El Paso, TX, the only child to Kenneth Cathman and Ethel Ann (Payton) Starnes. She grew up in El Paso and attended school there, continuing her educational pursuits at El Paso Community College and the University of Texas El Paso. She met Steven while working in El Paso and they were married April 24,1987. They made their home in El Paso until the early 2000s when they moved to Las Cruces, NM and worked as corrections officers at the Southern New Mexico Corrections Facility. Retirement brought them to South MS in 2018, to be closer family and grandchildren. April is remembered as a very quiet, unassuming person. She wasn't one to do much shopping or running around town, rather she enjoyed staying around home and relaxing, watching tv with her husband. April did enjoy travelling though, taking cruises to Jamaica several times. A loving and content wife and mother, she will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded by her parents, Kenneth and Ethel Starnes. Left to cherish her memories are: her loving, devoted husband of thirty-four years, Steven Pope; their children, Christopher (Jackie) Starnes of South Korea, Jennifer Pope of Bourbon, IN, twins Steven (Katery) Pope of Phoenix, AZ and Michelle (Mike) Williams of Biloxi, MS and Richard Pope of Colorado Springs, CO. She leaves her precious granddaughter Madison Mosher of Biloxi, along with several extended family and friends through the years. Her final wishes were to be cremated, which her family is honoring.
