Anna Scruggs Obituary

Anna Mae Scruggs, 82 and formerly of Wiggins, passed away Wednesday afternoon at Azalea Gardens Nursing Center. She was born April 20, 1937 on the family farm near Clairmont, Iowa, one of 5 and the only daughter to Norman R. and Hilda A. (Kleppe) Reinertson. She grew up on that farm in the Waterloo area, an active and outgoing young lady from the start. Anna ran track and competed as a high jumper in her school days at East High School. In 1957 while in California, she met Tommy Scruggs and they were married July 6th of that year. They made their home in Cedar Rapids early on, moving to South MS in the mid 60s. Over her career, Anna worked for the telephone company and at a garment factory, but she enjoyed her time as a nurse's aide at Azalea Gardens in Wiggins the most. She wasn't a complicated woman, rather she enjoyed the outdoors. Although she held a driver's license from her teenage years, Anna was the type that preferred to walk wherever she could. She loved being outdoors, saying that nature reminded her of God, plus she could take her time looking at flowers. Among her favorites were irises, sunflowers, and magnolias. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, and has attended Vardaman St. Baptist Church over the years here in Wiggins. Among her favorite things were reading, spending time with family, classic country and gospel music, and of course a trip to eat at Cracker Barrel would always bring a smile to her face. Aside from that, she could usually be found sitting on her front porch, enjoying a cup of coffee and a cigarette watching traffic go by. Among her favorite quotes were "uf-da", "Wow", and "I bet a dollar to a donut" and she was always reminding you that "hard work is good for you". A loving mother, grandmother and a caring friend to many, Anna will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all whose life she touched. She was preceded by her parents, Norman & Hilda Reinertson; her husband Tommy; one brother, Richard; her son Johnny and her grandson, Dylan Quisenberry. Left to cherish her memories are: her children: Joey (Kathie) Scruggs of Mount Dora, FL, Jimmy (Jackie) Scruggs of Bainbridge, GA, Jerry Scruggs of Wiggins, Jeff (Lisa) Scruggs of McHenry, Annette Goble (Brian Migues) of Vancleave, and Jason Scruggs (Anna Osbon) of Perkinston; her brothers Leslie (Arlene) Reinertson of Jessup, IA, Rodney (May) Reinertson of Glendale, AZ, and Daryl Reinertson of Apache Junction, AZ. She leaves a legacy of twenty grandchildren and thirty great-grands, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends made through the years. The family will receive friends for visitation Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM at Saucier Baptist Church, with the funeral service set for 3:00 PM. Afterward Anna will be laid to rest at Wiggins City Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Stone County Nursing & Rehab, Azalea Gardens Nursing Center, and Solace Hospice for their loving care for Anna over the past several months. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Scruggs family in their time of need and asks everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
