Mr. Willie Lavelle Taylor

Mr. Willie Lavelle "Bill" Taylor, 80 of Wiggins, passed away Sunday afternoon at his home surrounded by family. Bill was born June 14, 1938 in the Bothwell community in rural Greene county. He worked hard all his life, and was talented far more than he would ever admit. He mastered the art of whittling, and could carve or build most anything he put his mind to. Among his favorites were working pocket knives, wrenches, hammers, guns, bullets...anything really. He served in the US Navy, and worked for over 35 years at Teledyne Irby Steel as a welder, and then as the crane operator. Co-workers used to put names in a hat to see who would get the item he carved that day. He will be fondly remembered, and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Bill was preceded by his brothers, John Henry, Arthur, and Archie Taylor; and his sister, Frances Roberts. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife of 56 years, Shirley; their daughter Debra (Tim) Purvis of Wiggins, and son James Taylor of Harrison county; a granddaughter who meant the world to him, his "little angel" Heather (Cody) Gentry of Paragould, AR; along with special nieces, nephews, and untold friends. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, Nov. 6th at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry. The funeral service will be in Trinity's chapel Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM, with interment to follow at Wiggins City Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Alison Wall and the staff at MHG Oncology for helping them during his five years of treatments.
