William Thomas Ward, affectionately known as Tom, graced this world with his brilliant spirit on March 22, 1942, in Evanston, Illinois. He departed peacefully from this life on January 1, 2026, in the Sellers community, leaving behind a rich tapestry of memories woven from laughter and love.
Tom’s journey began when he joined the military straight out of high school, a choice that awakened a remarkable sense of pride in his service. His dedication and intellect found fertile ground in the realms of military intelligence during his time stationed at Keesler Air Force Base. It was there, amid the disciplined life of service, that he met the love of his life, a union that blossomed into an extraordinary 61 years of companionship marked by countless cherished moments and adventures.
He was a graduate of Evanston Township Highschool class of 1960, and joined the Air Force right out of it. After honorably discharging in 1968, he made his way down here where he graduated from MS Gulf Coast Community College with an Associates of Arts. As an alumnus of UT Dallas, Tom earned his master's degree in Science in management and administrative sciences. Yet it was not just academic accolades that defined him. He was a man of many talents and interests. An enthusiastic cook, he poured his heart into every meal prepared, diligently crafting nourishing dishes for his family. He had a profound love for classic cars, an affinity he embraced with joy and conviction, and he spent many sun-drenched afternoons on the golf course, where the click of the club against the ball echoed the sound of his laughter.
Most cherished were the joyful hours spent with his daughter and beloved grandchildren. His deep passion for family was rivaled only by his fervor for his faith—a guiding light in his life that saw him actively engaged in his church, where he was a proud former member of the Knights of Columbus.
Tom's vibrant personality was a gift to all who crossed his path. He could crack a joke in any situation, effortlessly lifting the spirits of those around him, and his genuine ability to strike up a conversation made him a beloved figure in every circle he entered. His kindness, intelligence, and vivacious charm left an indelible mark on all hearts that knew him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Ann Dedeaux Ward; their daughter Cindy Nehlsen and her husband Ken; his cherished grandchildren Paige Nehlsen and her partner Elliott Kravits, Claire Nehlsen with Evan; his brother-in-law Lester Billy Dedeaux, along with his wife Janice; his sister-in-law Charlene Dedeaux Frank; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and extended family, all of whom carry forward the warmth of his memory.
Tom will be lovingly remembered by all, not only for his accomplishments but for the way he endeared himself to others through compassion and joy. He is reunited with his beloved parents, Wilbur and Lillian Ward—his legacy of love and laughter will continue to echo in the hearts he touched.
