Ridgeland

We are all rejoicing today in remembering William Homer “Bill” Nisbett and the exuberant life he led for 77 wonderful years. Bill was born in Cleveland, Mississippi on January 15, 1945 to parents, Cora Wilson Nisbett and Jean Evans Nisbett. Having grown up in Cleveland, he graduated from Cleveland High School (1963) and Delta State University (1969). At Delta State University, he met the love of his life, Claudia Jackson from Leland and they married on August 11, 1968. Bill was in the National Guard for seven years and served honorably as an armored tank commander reaching the rank of Sergeant E-7. His career included managing Noel Industries, being the first personnel director at Parchmen Penitentiary, and serving as the Personnel and Safety Director with the City of Greenville. In 54 years of marriage, Bill and Claudia welcomed two children, Amy Laura Nisbett Emerson (Clint), now living in Tulsa, OK, and John William Nisbett (Amy Davenport) living in Madison, Mississippi. Bill known as “Bud” has enjoyed 8 fabulous grandchildren: Henry, Claudia, Jude, and Vivian who live in Tulsa, and Will, a freshman at Mississippi State University, Cora Tatum, Latt, and Evelyn who lives in Madison. Bill has been a faithful member the Church of Christ his entire life. For the last twenty years, he has been a member of Meadowbrook Church of Christ where he found great joy helping the children and using his handy man talents for the Lord. Bill could always be found at a hunting camp doing what he loved with family and friends. An avid conservationist, he was also a great storyteller thrilling the grandchildren with stories of Ollie, the Opossum, whose escapades he published into two children’s books. Bill could fix anything with duct tape and a bread tie and enjoyed his business--Handy Hands-- for several years in Jackson. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brother, Jean “Kayo” Nisbett. He is survived by his wife, Claudia, his two children, 8 grandchildren, 2 nephews-- John Winston Nisbett and Stephen Jackson, three nieces—Ashley Jackson Kutz (Kris), Jayne and Jill Nisbett, brother-in-law Bob Jackson and his wife Sheri, sister-in-law Edna Nisbett and cousins Janice Graham Hollis (Clyde) and Jimmy Graham. This ultimate prankster will be missed by his many hunting buddies and countless friends for his jovial spirit and captivating personality. The family would like to specifically thank Dr. Richard Guynes and Jackson Heart for the past 19 years which were nothing short of a miracle.
