William Joseph Lewchuk

July 9, 1945 — December 2, 2020

Perkinston

William Joseph Lewchuk, 75 of Perkinston, stepped into his eternal rest Wednesday afternoon. He was born July 9, 1945 in Chester, PA, the oldest of two children to William and Myrtle (King) Lewchuk, while his father was serving in the US Army. He grew up here in Stone county and was known as "Billy" by those who knew him best. He loved the outdoors and whenever possible, was fishing or hunting. Billy also loved telling stories and was never short of one to share. He often told of playing in the "pickle ditch" growing up in Wiggins, or how he loved to get a milkshake from Hinton's Pharmacy, among other things. A graduate in Stone High School's Class of 1964, Billy was drafted into the US Army. He served honorably for 4 years, spending some time in Europe but promptly returned to Stone county when he was discharged. Billy went to work at Brown Miller, or what most would simply call "the pickle factory" in Wiggins, where he remained until it was closed and moved. Not one to sit idle, he promptly went t work at MFC in Lumberton. He is remembered as a loving husband and family man, someone who was easy going for the most part, rarely if ever getting upset. A Christian by faith and member at Biloxi Creek Baptist Church for over 50 years, Billy was faithful in bringing his family to church, serving wherever he could help along the way. He would rather be at home or in his shed tinkering than anywhere, rarely if ever going out to eat or venturing too far from home. He was good with his hands and could build anything, so that's what he did. One thing about him though, you never had to wonder what he thought about something. Billy was straight forward and spoke his mind on the subject at hand. A caring, loving father and grandfather, he always found time to play with his kids after work, no matter the day he had. He worked hard to provide for his family and enjoyed taking them fishing and squirrel hunting, which was always a competition itself. Billy was kind to everyone, had a great sense of humor and will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded by his parents, William and Myrtle Lewchuk. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife of over 50 years, L'wanda; their daughter Pakki (Gay) Flurry and son Steven Lewchuk, both of Perk, and his only sister, Brenda (Buford) Bull of Wiggins. Billy leaves a legacy of two grandchildren that he loved dearly, Hunter and Hannah Flurry, also of Perk, along with numerous extended family and friends. Services are set for Saturday morning, December 5th at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, with a chapel service set for 12:00 noon. He will be laid to rest at Biloxi Creek Baptist Church Cemetery afterward.
