Gulfport

Wilburn Wilson Dowdy, 76 of Gulfport, passed away February 21st at Memorial Hospital. He was born October 17, 1945 in Pulaski, VA, the son of Jim and Stella Dowdy. He grew up there and came to be known as Will. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and discovered racing along the way. Will liked racing and has been a fan, driver, builder, and more for many years. He came to South Mississippi to visit his sister and decided to stay. Will was a mechanic by trade and worked for many years at Ingall's in Pascagoula. He also did paint and body work, worked on marine engines, and just about anything with a motor. Aside from working and fishing, not a whole lot of other things interested him. He remained a race fan through the years and could often be found at the track, if the fish weren't biting! He is remembered as a loving father who passed on to his kids the necessary skills to live. He was a bit strict, but that served his kids well. Will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded by his parents, Jim and Stella, and his brother, Roger Dowdy. Left to cherish his memories are: his sons Donnie Dowdy of Dublin, VA, David (Monica) Martin of Pineville, LA, Ronnie (Marie) Dowdy of Churchill, TN, and James (Jennifer) Dowdy of Saucier, with his daughters, Crystal Smith of Poplarville and Melissa (Anthony) Lewis of Norfolk, VA; and his best friend Rodney (Linda) Barber of Saucier. Will leaves a legacy of eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grands, and a host of extended family and friends far and wide. His final wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Dowdy family in their time of need, and asks everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this trying time.
