Gulfport

Vonnie Lee Holliman, 71 of Gulfport, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 19th at his home, with his loving wife at his side. He was born July 05, 1953, in Susanville, CA, one of seven children to the late Avon Zachary and Helen Marie (Jones) Holliman. The family moved from California to South MS when Vonnie was just 2 years old, calling Gulfport home since. He enjoyed being outdoors, riding horses and motorcycles, and of course, his music. His family all enjoyed music, with most playing an instrument and singing as well. His father played the mandolin, his mother the piano, but Vonnie's gift was the guitar. He went to work for the City of Gulfport and spent 25 years there in the Water and Sewer Department before retiring. When he wasn't working, Vonnie was usually playing music somewhere. He was with a couple of local groups over the years, most notably the Silvarado Band and Vonnie Holliman and the Ugly Bunch. In his spare time, Vonnie enjoyed travelling with his wife. Together they visited several states from coast to coast, just enjoying life and seeing the country. He is remembered as a loving husband and friend to many who will be sadly missed by all whose life he touched. Vonnie was preceded by his parents, Avon and Helen Holliman, two brothers, Donnie and Jerry Holliman, his sister Elois Holliman, with step-children Lori McCormick, Billy Murray, and Kathy Murray. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife of over 31 years, Frances; his children: sons Dennis (Kimberly) Holliman of Saucier, Jon (Jessica) Holliman of Vancleave, and Jesse Holliman of D'Iberville; his step-daughter Gina (David, Jr.) Marie of Butler, AL; his brother Danny Holliman and sisters Rita Fisher and Jeanie (Bradley) Yocom, all of South MS. Vonnie also leaves numerous extended family, friends, and untold numbers of fans he played for through the years. His final wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring. He will be laid rest beside his father in a private ceremony at a later date. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Holliman family in their time of need and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers through the days ahead.
