Tilous Smith

September 4, 1948 — February 21, 2024

Poplarville, MS

Tilous Smith, a cherished husband, father, and friend, peacefully passed away on February 21, 2024, at the age of 75, in Olive Branch, Mississippi, surrounded by his devoted family. Born on September 4, 1948, in Poplarville, Mississippi, Tilous lived a life marked by love, selflessness, and adventure. Tilous is survived by his devoted wife, Alley Smith, and his beloved children: Angie Smith, Nicole Smith, Sabrina Storey, Valerie Peterson, and John Smith. Each of them cherished the moments spent with their father, who imparted wisdom, strength, and compassion through his actions and words. He was a pillar of support to his family, guiding them through life's challenges with grace and fortitude. Tilous's journey began as the son of a small-town Poplarville family, where he learned the values of hard work and kindness. He committed much of his life to the land and his community as a dedicated farmer and skilled pipefitter. By trade, Tilous was as sturdy and reliable as the pipes he fitted, and as resilient and nurturing as the crops he farmed. His work ethic was unmatched, and his hands were always ready for the task, whether it was wrestling with a wrench or planting seeds for the next harvest. His hands, weathered from years of labor, were a testament to his selfless nature and his commitment to providing for his family. His actions spoke volumes to all who knew him. When he wasn't elbow-deep in grease or tending to the fields, Tilous was a man on the move. He traveled the country not in search of fame or fortune but for the sheer love of racing events and the crack of the bat at ball games. His family and friends were his fellow travelers, sharing in the belly laughs and roadside wonders that come with every road trip. Tilous's impact on the world was not measured in material possessions or accolades but in the love, he gave and the lives he touched. His generous spirit and compassionate nature were the hallmarks of his character, and the void left by his passing will be felt deeply by all who were fortunate enough to know him. As we say farewell to Tilous Smith, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and kindness. We take comfort in the memories we shared and the knowledge that his spirit will continue to guide us. Though he has departed from this earthly realm, his love remains a beacon of light in the hearts of those he leaves behind. A private service will be held to honor the life and legacy of Tilous Smith. His family will gather to reflect on the profound impact he had on their lives and to bid him a loving goodbye. While we mourn his loss, we also rejoice in the time we had with him and the lessons he taught us through his example.
