Mr. Thomas Eugene McCoy, 89, of Gulfport, MS, passed away peacefully holding the hand of his son Billy, September 19, 2021 at St. Joseph's hospice, The Carpenter House. Thomas was born one of five children to Claude C. and Marie Constance McCoy, December 14, 1931, in Long Beach, MS. He would grow up in Long Beach and graduate from Long Beach High School, where he enjoyed many sports. Golf, baseball, and church league softball to name a few that even as an adult, Thomas enjoyed playing. He loved to watch football, whether it be on tv or live, he was a Saints and Ole Miss fan through and through. One of the many things Thomas enjoyed doing with his children was taking them to football games and NASCAR races, a memory his children still cherish. Aside from football, Thomas enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to take his family out on the boat and fish, a place he and his son Billy spent a lot of time together. Thomas joined the Air National Guard, where he served proudly for twelve years. Thomas was hard worker who always provided well for his family, retiring from Keesler Air Force Base as a civilian Communication specialist. He was dedicated to his family, especially his precious wife of 67 years, Mary Gold, for better or for worse, they took care of each other right until the end. Becoming a grandfather was one of his greatest accomplishments!! In fact, those grandbabies and later great grand babies were his world! He loved the Holidays when he could have all of his family together. If there was ever a time you couldn't find Thomas, just listen for his harmonica that he loved to play all the time, and by ear at that! He loved his church, Bayou View Baptist, where he served as a Deacon and enjoyed singing in the choir. Thomas loved going to Lord in prayer! Literally, until the last breath the Lord gave him on this earth, he was talking to God and praying for his family. Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, Claude C. and Marie Constance McCoy, and all of his siblings, Mary Virginia Spade, C. C. McCoy, Jack E. McCoy, John W. McCoy, and Charles Edward McCoy. Left here on earth to cherish his sweet memory are his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Gold (Bishop) McCoy; his daughter Kathy Acuff of Highpoint, NC; his son Billy (Sharon) McCoy of Ocean Springs, MS; his four grandchildren Ashleigh (Nic) Kuhn, Meagan (Stephen) Black, both of NC, Matthew (Anna) McCoy, and Chris Welch both of Ocean Springs, MS. He leaves a legacy of nine great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends. Thomas's wishes were to have his body donated, which his family is honoring. The family would ask that you join them in celebrating the life of Thomas, Thursday, September 30, 2021 beginning at 2:00 pm at Bayou View Baptist Church. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the McCoy family during this difficult time, and would ask that you remember Ms. Mary, Billy, and Kathy in your prayers during the days to come .
