Suzanna Marie (Johnson) Sumrall

April 2, 1965 — December 21, 2021

Sumrall, MS

Suzanna Marie Sumrall, 56, passed away on December 21st at Ashbury Hospice in Hattiesburg, MS. She was born on April 02, 1965 in Phoenix, AZ, the youngest of two children to Aubrey Jerome and Maryann (Smith) Johnson. Suzanne, as she was known to most, grew up in the Phoenix area before moving to Seminary, MS as a teenager. She enjoyed the outdoors, including camping, horseback riding and more. Suzanne graduated from Seminary High School with the Class of 1984 and took some paralegal and business classes at Pearl River Community College and the University of Phoenix. She went to work in the retail industry, serving as manager for several convenience stores around South MS, in New Agusta, Petal, Hattiesburg and more. In her spare time, she enjoyed travelling, often taking cruises with her brother and sister. Among her favorite destinations was Grand Turk island, which she visited many times. She is remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, with the biggest, giving heart ever. She took in and fed all the strays in the neighborhood, both the two and four legged ones, because that's the type person she was. Suzanne didn't want to see anyone, or any animal, go without. She absolutely loved her family, with her grandchildren at the top of her list. They were the light of her life and she did her best to spoil them rotten. Suzanne loved her coffee and was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy fan. She always summed things up by saying, "No matter what happens, I am coming out a winner." She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded by her parents, Aubrey and Mary Ann Johnson, and her adoptive mother, Joan Johnson. Left to cherish her memories are: her two children, Kimberly (Will) Squires of Sumrall, MS, Debra (Kevin) Brooks of Jacksonville, FL, and a bonus daughter that she "took in" as her own, Sosha (Alton) Newsome of Brooklyn; one sister, Audra (Johnny) Dyar of Purvis, with her brother Robert (Gayle) Survick of Kingman, AZ. She leaves a legacy of nine grandchildren: Justin, Kailee, Taylor and Jordan Squires, Samuel Brooks, Gabriel, Aliannah and Izabella Montalvo and Victoria (Andrew) Delci, two great-grandchildren: Emma and Matheo Delci, with several nieces and nephews, extended family and friends all over. Her final wishes were to be cremated, which the family is honoring and will hold a memorial service at a later date. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Sumrall family in their time of need, asking everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
