Obituary

Susan Anne Watts, 76 of McHenry, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 30, 2026. Susan spent her final days surround by her loving family at her home. She was born November 27, 1949 in Baton Rouge, LA, the third of four children to Hugh Monroe and Ethel (Saucier) Hardy. The family moved to South MS when she was an infant and have called it home ever since. Susan grew up in Gulfport and attended school there, graduating with the Admiral Class of 1967 before moving on to USM in Hattiesburg. Her and Bobby actually were in grade school together many years before, but were reconnected when a friend introduced them. They began dating and were married in 1971, making their home in Gulfport for a while. Susan worked as a key punch operator for Southern Pipe and at then at the Seabee base in Gulfport for a while. In the mid 70's, her and Bobby purchased property on Copeland Road, built their home there and have been there since. Together they raised two children, Andy and Jenny, and lived their lives here in Stone county. Susan worked in several places over the years, including a daycare she operated with Inita Owen called The Pumpkin Patch there in Wiggins. She also worked at Red Creek Market for a while before she was hired as the first dispatcher for Stone County 911 when the center opened. She eventually became the director of the 911 center, working there until her retirement in 2012. In her years there, Susan worked and helped build the communications center into what it is today. In her free time, she enjoyed the beach more than any other place. It was by all accounts, her happy place and she went as often as she could. Susan also enjoyed travelling, with a favorite stop being the Kentucky Derby each year, with her sister Linda and cousin Judy. She was a loving person and a Christian by faith. A member at McHenry First Baptist Church for many years, Susan worked and served wherever she was needed. One of her final efforts at church was coordinating the senior food boxes, which she absolutely loved doing. Outgoing and adventurous, she enjoyed being outside, even riding jet skis in Back Bay and out to Deer Island...mostly right by herself. One thing everyone will recall was that you never saw her withgout a smile on her face, Susan was a soft-spoken, loving lady who could always find something positive in most any situation. A loving sister, wife, mother, trusted friend, and a calming voice on the radio to officers and firefighters over the years, she will be sadly missed by all whose life she touched. Today she is where she has wanted to be for many years, with her Lord and Savior, patiently smiling and waiting for her family and friends to join her. She was preceded by her parents, Hugh and Ethel Hardy, her brother David Hardy and her sister, Linda Blackwell. Left to cherish her memories are: her loving husband of 55 years, Bobby; their two children, son Andy (Cinthia) Watts of Perkinston, and daughter Jenny Watts of Brandon; her best friend, cousin, and travel sidekick Judy Ober of Long Beach, and one sister, Beth Garza of Mobile, AL. Susan leaves a legacy of nine grandchildren, four great-grands, and a host of extended family, former co-workers and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly. One thing is for certain. If you knew Susan, you knew were loved. Susan's final wishes were to be cremated, which her family is honoring. The family has scheduled a Celebration of Life for Susan on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026 at 3:00 PM. All who knew and loved her are encouraged to attend. Both Susan and her family specifically requests that in lieu of any floral gifts, donations be made in her honor to Our Daily Bread Food Pantry in Wiggins. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Watts family in their time of need and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers through the days ahead.
