Mr. Steven Austin Sturdivant Sr

Mr. Steven Austin "Steve" Sturdivant, 47 of Wiggins, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, March 31, 2017. Steve was born October 11, 1969 in Monroe, LA to Robert and Syble Sturdivant. He grew up in the Hammond area, and enjoyed fishing and other outdoor things, such as gardening. He graduated with honors from high school in Hammond, and eventually moved to South MS. Steve became an active volunteer firefighter, and eventually decided he wanted to become an EMT. He attended MGCCC's EMT Paramedic program, where he graduated on the President's list. Steve worked in EMS for American Medical Response on the Gulf Coast, before moving to the offshore industry, working for Total Safety as a safety specialist / medic out of South Louisiana. His home was flooded in late 2016, and he and his family returned to Wiggins in South MS. He will be remembered as a loving father and husband, an honest and hard working provider for his family. He loved to read, spend time with his family. If he wasn't fishing or involved with his family, he could be found watching Fox News. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Steve is survived by his loving partner of 16 years, Cecilia Bachtel; his children, a son, Steve Jr., and two daughters, Amber and Diana Sturdivant, both of New Orleans; by his step-children, whom he loved as his own, Summer Bachtel, Logan Reagan, and Shane Ellis; by his sisters, Sandy Sturdivant and Paula Miller; one grandson, Jaden Knight; and by a host of friends and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Syble Sturdivant. Services will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2017, from 3pm until 5pm, at Trinity Funeral Service in McHenry, MS. His wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring.
