Silas Gibson

October 24, 1949 — July 13, 2025

Lumberton

Silas Gibson was an old-fashioned man who was immensely proud of his Melungeon heritage. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and National Guard who served his country during the Vietnam War and Desert Storm. He was strong, faithful, and full of grit. He passed away surrounded by his family and church family who loved him very much. He is leaving behind a legacy carved in hard work, deep faith, and unwavering love.  Silas worked hard his entire life, from the dirt roads of his hometown to highways across the country as a truck driver. No matter where he went, he carried with him a sense of humor, a voice that could lift the rafters in song, and a truthfulness that never held back. Silas did not sugarcoat a thing - he told it like it was. In his free time, he liked to be watching westerns or working his crossword puzzles and he always had some good stories to tell. Silas was of the Baptist faith and was an active member of North Spoon Baptist Church. His faith wasn't just something he practiced - it was who he was. He sang and worshiped the Lord with great joy and spoke boldly about the Lord to anyone who would listen. His church was not just a building to him - it was his extended family. He was loyal and faithful and the love he poured into it was returned tenfold. Silas was a devoted husband, proud father and a loving grandfather. His family meant the world to him, and he made sure they knew it. Tough as nails, rough around the edges, full of laughter and light - Silas Gibson was simply a good man. The kind of man who leaves a mark, not just in the memories of his loved ones, but in the lives he touched. He will be missed but his faith, love and legacy will live on in all who knew him. He is preceded by his parents, Amos and Alice Gibson; 7 brothers; 3 sisters; 1 grandchild. Left to cherish his memories, his wife of 28 years, Tina Gibson; children, Marc (Rachel) Gibson, Crystal Gibson, Derrick Gibson, Tabitha (Wayne) Boles, Faith (Josh) Shepardson, Sierra (Greggory) Amacker, Dustin (Brandy) Shaffer, Aaron (Ivy Millett) Gibson; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, beloved church family, and many friends. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Gibson family and asks that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers for the days ahead.
