Selvyn Tally Rayborn Sr.

Mr. Selvyn Tally Rayborn Sr., 80, of Lumberton, MS, left his earthly home on March 24 in Hattiesburg, MS. Selvyn was born, May 18, 1941 in Lumberton, MS to John and Eunice (Beach) Rayburn. He grew up in the Baxterville community and graduated from Lumberton High School, class of '59. After high school Selvyn went on the work Lumberton Citizens Bank before becoming a Lamar County Supervisor from 1972-1980. Selvyn left the county and began work at Courtesy Ford in Hattiesburg for eight years until he moved over to Matthews Ford where he became service manager. Later he would change directions, ending his career as a security guard for Cooper Power Systems. Mr. Rayborn loved music! He loved to sing and listen to live music at church whenever Jim Reeves would sing, he was Mr. Selvyn's favorite. Selvyn was a member of Baxterville Baptist Church where he loved to sing and hear God's word. He was a kind man and loved by all. He was known for the funny stories he loved to tell and music, which he was passionate about. Mr. Rayburn even recorded his own records in 1962 with songs written by Ray Stephens and in1973 with songs by him and his musical clan. There is no doubt his family will miss him but they are blessed with the life and memories he leaves them with. Mr. Selvyn Rayburn is survived by his wife Martha Frances (Rawls) Rayburn; one sister Charlotte Gipson of Baxterville, MS; his children Todd (Tammy) Rayburn and Randy Brown both of Lumberton, MS., Selvyn "Tally" Rayburn, Jr. and Tanya ( Rick) Carney both of Columbia, MS.; his beloved grandchildren, Jared and Joci Rayburn, Cole Saxon, Jessica Seally, and Kathleen Daughdrill; as well as four great-grand children and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents John and Eunice (Beach) Rayburn and one grandchild, Jamie Brown. Friends and family will be received Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 11:00 am, at Baxterville Baptist Church with a funeral service following, beginning at 1:00 pm, interment at Baxterville Baptist Church Cemetery to follow.
