Scott Lane, 54 of Hattiesburg, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 16th at his home. He was born at Ft. Dodge, IA, the 4th of 6 children to George & Wanda Lane on Dec. 11, 1963. Scott grew up in Ft. Dodge a member of a military family. He loved to fish and camp from an early age, and also developed an affinity for cooking and reading. It seems he could never learn enough about things that interested him. After graduating high school, Scott served honorably in the US Navy as a sonar tech. Following his military service, he taught school for a while, pursuing further education at the same time. Scott moved to South MS just before Katrina, and went to work in management for Walmart. He was an outgoing, fun-loving guy that enjoyed golf, and was a member of the Elk's Lodge, Shriner's, Masonic Lodge, and The American Legion. Scott is remembered as being "smart as a whip", and was loved by all who knew him. He was a caring, loving, and thoughtful husband and father, and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded by his parents, George & Wanda Lane. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of almost 14 years, Theida; 5 children: daughters Diane and Kristina Lane, both of Sioux City, IA, and sons Jacob (Sara) Lane of Ocean Springs, Paul (Pat) Hobbs of Onawa, IA, and Kristopher Lane of Council Bluff, IA; five brothers, Brian, Pat, Kevin (Marian), and Joe (Veronica) Lane, all of NE, and Eugene (Stacey) Lane of IA. Scott had 9 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and no telling how many nieces, nephews, and friends scattered across the U.S. Scott's wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring. A memorial service for Scott will be held Friday, March 23rd at 11:00 AM, at Walmart Supercenter #2717 where he worked, located at 5901 Hwy. 49 in Hattiesburg, MS. All who knew him are encouraged to come remember and celebrate his life.
