Sarah Shaw, a cherished soul and beacon of light in the lives of those who knew her, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2024, at the age of 82 in Gulfport. Born on May 3, 1942, in the quaint community Necaise Crossing, Sarah's life was one filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering spirit that inspired all. Sarah was the beloved daughter of the late Oliver James and Ouida Mae Cuevas. She was also preceded in death by her ex-husband, Calvin Shaw, and her two daughters Baby-Girl Shaw, and Angela Shaw Lasso. Her life's journey was shared with her siblings, and she is now reunited with those who passed before her; Patsy Smith, Monvel Cuevas, Bonnie Cuevas, Brenda Ladner, Richard Cuevas, and Ray Cuevas. Those left to honor Sarah's memory include her loving siblings, Paul Cuevas and Gay Ladner. The legacy of her kind-hearted nature and nurturing love continues through her devoted son Jamie Shaw and his wife Lacey. Sarah was a proud and doting grandmother to her treasured grandchildren: Autumn Shaw, Triston Sones and his wife Jenna, Bryson Sones and his wife Taylor, Casin Sones, Addison Sones, Trae Lasso and his wife Jaycee, and Cameron Lasso and his wife Brooke. Her joy was multiplied with the arrival of each of her great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Lakyn, Cal, Brady, and Ellie-Brooke Lasso, who will carry her spirit and memories in their hearts. Sarah's life was a tapestry of warm memories and shared experiences. She was a woman of strength and character, always putting others before herself and facing life's challenges with grace and resilience. Her friends and family will remember her for her generous heart, her infectious smile, and her ability to find the silver lining in every cloud. Sarah's journey through life was marked by her unwavering faith, her dedication to her family, and her ability to nurture and support those around her. She was a source of wisdom and comfort, and her guidance was sought by many. Her home was a haven of hospitality, where all were welcome and laughter was abundant. Throughout her life, Sarah cultivated a garden of friendships that blossomed with her kindness and warmth. She had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel special, and her presence was a gift that she freely gave. Her impact on the communities she served was profound, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. As we bid farewell to Sarah Shaw, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, a journey marked by compassion, and a legacy that will continue to glow brightly in the lives of her family and friends. Her spirit will forever be a guiding light, and her memory a treasure locked within our hearts. Sarah's life was a beautiful story of love and dedication, and though her passing leaves a void, we take solace in knowing that her life was one well-lived. We will miss her immensely, but we are comforted by the countless memories and the enduring love she bestowed upon us. A Celebration of Life will be held to honor the incredible woman that Sarah was on Saturday, May 18, 2024, beginning at 10 am for a visitation, followed by a funeral service at 11 am with lunch to follow at Crane Creek Baptist Church. As we reflect on her life, we are reminded of the countless ways in which she touched our lives and made our world a better place. Sarah Shaw, a name synonymous with love, will forever be remembered and cherished.
