Sandra Lynne (Thompson) Baughman

January 5, 1946 — December 10, 2021

Big Level, MS

Sandra Lynne Baughman, 75 of the Big Level community, passed away Friday afternoon, December 10th, with her loving husband and family at her side. She was born January 5, 1946 in Memphis, TN, one of three children and daughter of Leon Ohava and Jewel Earlene (Todd) Thompson. Sandra grew up in several places, spending the first few years in the Olive Branch area, then to Phoenix, AZ for a few more and to Lumberton, MS as a teenager. She graduated from Lumberton High School in the mid 60s and married Nathaniel Baughman. The young couple made their home in Lumberton originally, while he finished school at Pearl River. Then, they lived in Jackson for a short while before coming back to Lumberton for a few years. They would spend the next 20 years or so in Gulfport, raising their three children there before eventually "retiring" to Big Level, where they have lived since the late 90s. In her lifetime, Sandra has accumulated some mileage for sure, all the while taking care of her family and working as a secretary and office manager for varying places, most recently for American Rural Satellites when she retired a few years ago. Sandra was one of those rare, special people you come across in life. She is readily described as an all-around good person that loved and was loved, by literally everyone. That was most likely due to her exceptional "old school" values, which she did her best to pass along to her own children and others. You see, Sandra not only cared for her own kids, but all their friends loved her as their second mom as well. It was jokingly noted that rather than a regular front door, perhaps they should have a revolving door installed to handle all the traffic into her home. In addition to all the kids and others, which there were lots of, Sandra also spoiled Nat and took great care of him through the years as well. When she had some spare time, she enjoyed reading science fiction books, watching movies and of course, her plants. Sandra definitely had a green thumb and could grow anything. Her selfless approach to life, along with a giving nature and loving heart for everyone, will be forever missed by all those whose life she touched. Sandra was preceded by her parents, Leon & Jewel Thompson, with both her brothers, Darwin and Larry Thompson and one aunt, Pauline Pryor. Left to cherish her memories are: her devoted husband of over 57 years, Nat Baughman; their children: sons Brion Baughman of Big Level and Tod (Jamie) Baughman of Perk, with one daughter, Malinda (Patrick) Farrell of Wiggins; her brother-in-law Mack (Diane) Baughman of Lumberton and sisters-in-law Jo (Marion) Ladner and Laverne Montana, both of Gulfport. Sandra leaves a legacy of five grandchildren: Shane Baughman, Lauren Madden, Ginny Bunch, Shelbie (Colby) Farrell and Alyssa (Ian) Farrell; four great-grands: Wyatt, Autumn, Russell, Harlow, and Asher, along with numerous extended family, friends and neighbors through the years. Funeral services are set for Tuesday, December 14th at Trinity Funeral Services' Lumberton branch. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a chapel service at 11:00 AM. Afterward, Sandra will be laid to rest in the Byrd Line Cemetery.
