Rubye Helene Breland, 63, of Hattiesburg, MS, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home, on August 31, 2021. Born one of seven children, on August 26, 1958, to Ernest and Marjorie (Easterling) Phillips, in Savannah, Ga. Marjorie would grow up in New Orleans, LA before moving to Wiggins, MS during her teenage years. She was a brave little girl, who learned quickly how to be a strong independent woman. A single mother, Rubye worked three jobs at one time to provide for her two beautiful girls, Jessica and Marjie. She was dedicated to her girls, always encouraging them, to pursue their hearts desires in life. Rubye encouraged her daughter Jessica to join the military and travel the world, an opportunity she will forever be proud of. Christmas mornings were never shy of amazing, every year, Rubye made sure her girls had the BEST Christmas's, a memory they are sure to remember, thanks to Mom. Humor was something Rubye was a pro at. She could understand dry humor no one else could make sense of, and was always quick to make any situation a funny one. Often considered a "match maker", Rubye had a gift of getting to know someone and already having their soul mate in mind. One of her best matches was her beloved brother David and his wife Tammy. The moment she met Tammy, she already knew her brother was her perfect match! Rubye loved to travel, only flying once in her life, she preferred to take the train. She will be remembered as a passionate and dedicated woman who always put herself second. She is preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Marjorie (Easterling) Phillips; and a sister Beth Moak. Those left to cherish her memory are her significant other of forty plus years, John Breland of Hattiesburg, MS; her loving daughters Jessica (Eddie) Emmett of Atlanta, GA and Marjie (Archie) Rutland of Purivis, MS; brothers Ernest (Elizabeth) Phillips, Jr. of Fort Worth, TX. and David (Tammy) Phillips of Wiggins, MS.; sisters Pamela (Eddie) Lipsett and Martha Phillips, both of Rhode Island, MA. Rubye leaves a legacy of six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Rubye's wishes were to be cremated, which her girls are honoring. A celebration of Rubye's life will be held at a later date provided by the family. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Breland family during this difficult time and would ask that you remember each of them in your thoughts and prayers in the coming days ahead.
