Mr. Roosevelt Breland

Mr. Roosevelt Breland, 65 of Wiggins, passed away on Monday at Woodland Village in Diamondhead. Roosevelt was born December 30, 1951, one of 9 children to Livingston and Mattie Mae Breland. He grew up in the Gumbranch community West of Wiggins. As a young man, he became fond of music and sports. He played football as a running back at Locker High, and also put together his own local blues band, serving as the lead singer. Roosevelt always enjoyed working with his hands, and became a carpenter, working with Judge Brown for many years. He built his own home, and many other houses, churches, and other structures in and around Stone county. Later in life, he worked at Stone County Hospital in the maintenance department. He will be remembered as a jovial, fun loving but hard working man, who was a joy to be around. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Roosevelt is survived by his son, Jaushaw Breland, and a daughter, Sonya Campbell, both of Wiggins; his siblings, sisters Louise Atkinson and Louella Evans (Bobby) of Wiggins; brothers W.C. Breland (Charlie) of Hattiesburg, Teddy Breland and Liston Breland, both of Wiggins; 4 grandkids, Joushun Breland, Tathan, Chasity, and Devon Campbell; his former wife, Nancy Breland; loving nieces, Janice Breland and Sheree Gordon; a host of other nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends. He was preceded by his parents, Livingston and Mattie Mae Breland; sisters, Carrie Lee Brown and Ola Mae Corbett, and a brother, Robert James. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 7th, at Trinity Funeral Services' McHenry location. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM. He will be interred at New Zion Church Cemetery in a private service at a later time. Please keep Jaushaw and all of the Breland family lifted up in this difficult time.
